Kinetic Typhoon-Resilient Shelter
research | developed within the Emergent Technologies and Design (EmTech) programme at the Architectural Association (AA) in London, this climate-responsive shelter addresses emergency situations in Bohol, Philippines. a kinetic roof and lightweight structure respond to solar exposure, wind and typhoon conditions. in collaboration with Diane Diaz and Yixuan Zhang.

the shelter is conceived as an adaptive structure for Bohol, Philippines. its system combines columns and pedestals, a space-truss structure and a dynamic roof layer, with geometry developed through computational workflows and environmental analysis.

the roof is rationalised as a kinetic panel system whose degree of opening can change with environmental conditions. solar-radiation studies compare multiple opening states, while structural and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis assess deformation and wind behaviour under typhoon-oriented scenarios.
